Amex renamed the Platinum Card hotel credit the $600 Lodging Credit and changed two rules. Prepaid Airbnb Luxe stays now count toward it. Starting January 1, 2027, Fine Hotels + Resorts bookings need at least two nights to get the credit.

The amount stays the same: up to $300 from January to June and up to $300 from July to December.

FROM THE TERMS

Effective January 1, 2027, Fine Hotels + Resorts® bookings will require a minimum two-night stay to be eligible for the $600 Lodging Credit.

Amex lists both the Platinum Card and the Business Platinum Card.

Why the one-night rule matters

A one-night Fine Hotels + Resorts stay was the easiest way to use the credit. Many FHR hotels charge $300 to $600 a night, so one prepaid night used up the full $300, and the stay still came with the usual FHR perks like breakfast for two.

In 2027 you need two nights. At a $400-a-night hotel, that's an $800 booking to collect $300. If you would have stayed two nights anyway, nothing changes for you. If you only booked FHR to use the credit, the credit now costs you more.

Airbnb Luxe now counts

Prepaid Airbnb Luxe homes booked through AmexTravel.com or the Amex Travel app count toward the same $300. They need two nights and must be paid in full when you book. Luxe homes are high-end rentals, so most two-night stays cost well over $300 and use the full half-year credit in one booking.

This helps groups and families who would rather rent a house than book two hotel rooms.

Amex's Airbnb page also lists a separate $250 Airbnb Experiences credit. You unlock it by booking a prepaid Airbnb Luxe stay through Amex Travel, then it covers eligible Airbnb Experiences for the rest of that calendar year. We don't count it in card totals, because you only get it after a Luxe booking.

What you should do before January 1

Use your July to December $300 on a one-night FHR stay if that's how you'd use it. Bookings must be processed by December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM Central Time to count for this half. Amex hasn't said whether the 2-night rule follows the booking date or the stay date, so book and stay before January 1 to be safe.

Plan 2027 around two-night trips. If you take two weekend trips a year, one in each half, you'll use the full $600 the same way you did before.

Does the Platinum still pay for itself?

The credit is still worth up to $600 a year at face value, so the card's total doesn't change. What changes is how easy that $600 is to use. Our Amex Platinum calculator lets you set your own value for each credit. If you'll only use one two-night stay a year, enter $300 for this one and see where the card lands against the $895 fee.
