Delta Stays Credit: How to Get Up to $250/Year in Free Hotels
Delta quietly launched one of the most valuable hotel benefits in the credit card space: automatic statement credits when you book hotels through delta.com/stays.
If you carry any Delta SkyMiles Amex card — from the Gold all the way up to the Reserve Business — you're eligible for $100 to $250 per year in hotel credits with no enrollment required.
Which Cards Get How Much?
Every Delta SkyMiles Amex card gets this benefit, but the amounts vary significantly:
| Card | Annual Credit | Annual Fee |
|---|---|---|
| Delta Reserve Business | $250/year | $650 |
| Delta Reserve | $200/year | $650 |
| Delta Platinum Business | $200/year | $350 |
| Delta Platinum | $150/year | $350 |
| Delta Gold Business | $150/year | $0 first year, then $150 |
| Delta Gold | $100/year | $0 first year, then $150 |
The Delta Gold is particularly interesting: if you're in the first year with a $0 annual fee, you're getting $100 in free hotel money with no cost.
How It Works
- Go to delta.com/stays
- Search for hotels or vacation rentals at your destination
- Book a prepaid rate using your Delta SkyMiles Amex card
- Statement credit posts automatically — no code, no enrollment
That's it. No activation, no enrollment forms, no calling anyone. The credit just shows up on your statement.
What Qualifies (Read This Carefully)
This is where people get tripped up. Only specific booking types count:
Qualifies:
- Prepaid hotel bookings through delta.com/stays
- Vacation rental bookings through delta.com/stays
- The base room rate on prepaid reservations
Does NOT qualify:
- "Pay at hotel" reservations (must be prepaid)
- Delta Vacations packages (flights + hotel bundles)
- Flights, car rentals, or experiences on delta.com
- Resort fees, property fees, or parking charges
- Cancellation fees or interest charges
- Bookings made through any other site (Hotels.com, Booking.com, the hotel directly, etc.)
The key word is prepaid. When you're on delta.com/stays, make sure you select a prepaid rate. "Pay at hotel" options won't trigger the credit.
Why Delta Stays Might Beat Booking Directly
You might think: "Why not just book through the hotel's website?"
Here's why Delta Stays can be better:
1. The statement credit makes it cheaper. A $200/night hotel with a $200 Delta Stays credit is essentially one free night. Most hotel loyalty programs can't match that.
2. You still earn SkyMiles. Delta Stays bookings earn SkyMiles on top of the statement credit. You're getting the credit AND earning miles — double dipping.
3. Prices are competitive. Delta Stays rates are generally in line with other booking platforms. The credit is pure upside.
The one exception: if you have elite status with a hotel chain (Hilton Diamond, Marriott Platinum, etc.), booking direct usually preserves your elite benefits like upgrades and late checkout. Delta Stays bookings are treated as third-party reservations and won't get elite perks.
Timing Tips
Credits can take up to 90 days to post to your statement after your booking. The transaction date is based on when the merchant processes payment, not when you click "book."
This means:
- Book early in the year. If you book in November, the credit might not post until February — in the next calendar year. That doesn't help your current year's credit.
- Don't wait until December. A December booking almost certainly won't post until 2027, so you'd miss your 2026 credit entirely.
- Book by September to be safe. This gives the full 90 days to post within the calendar year.
Stacking With Other Benefits
If you carry multiple Delta cards (say, a personal Reserve and a business Platinum), each card gets its own credit. A Delta Reserve ($200) plus a Delta Platinum Business ($200) gives you $400/year in hotel credits.
You can also stack this with:
- Amex Offers: Check your Amex app for additional hotel offers that might apply
- SkyMiles earnings: Every dollar spent earns miles, even on credited bookings
- Delta SkyMiles Medallion status: MQD (Medallion Qualifying Dollars) may apply on Delta Stays purchases
The Bottom Line
The Delta Stays credit is one of the easiest benefits to use — no enrollment, automatic credits, and it works on vacation rentals too. The Delta Gold at $0 first-year fee with $100 in hotel credits is an exceptional deal.
The main thing to remember: book prepaid, book through delta.com/stays, and book before October to make sure your credit posts in the current year.
